In my opinion, this is the strongest and most cohesive album from the band post-merger. "Strangeways" stands out as the standout track for me, with Jon Lord's incredible rhythm and stereo effects creating a bombastic atmosphere. The song reminds me of "Hungry Daze" from their previous album and showcases Ritchie Blackmore's exceptional guitar skills. If you pay close attention, you can even hear Ian Gillan's congas in the chaotic ending of the song, taking us back to the band's glory days. I recently read an interview with Bruce Dickinson where he praised Deep Purple as the only band that can deliver powerful music while maintaining a relaxed vibe.

At 10:59 Duane plays the most heartfelt, soulful, melodic passage.

There really is no such thing as Southern rock.......Gregg Allman said all Rock is Southern.... I agree...Chuck Berry is the Father of RnR along w Little Richard ....ELViS Use to go watch black blues cats playing at honky tonks.when he was a kid...I Truly Believe.that ELVis was The Messenger,especially to WHite Audiences....Hell Jerry Garcia n Keith. Richards both said after watching and hearing Chuck 🍓 Berry,that's when they knew what they wanted to do w their lives..... Jazz,Blues,Gospel,mixed w Country n western swing£= Rock and Roll....also apart of the Fathers of Rock n Roll,I Must add FATS DOMINOE,! ..

I’ve listened to this more times than I can recall even though I listen to various genres of music. To me this is pure musical genius that engages the listener on a deep level.

I may get bashed here, but my fav bands are the Allmans and the Doobies. So who's first? I saw the Allmans around '74 in Greensboro. I was stationed at Fort Bragg. The Allmans Brothers 13:31 were good. No Duane of course . Dickie Betts was a great replacement as it were. Saw the Doobies in latter '74, around the Summer. They were great. Just fantastic. Better than the '74 Allmans who were good. I gotta take the Doobies hands down though, but you add Duane to the Allmans maybe a different story. Both great bands. I'm going to my last concert in July 2024. The Doobies near Atlanta.

There is a reason why this album is in the Smithsonian Museum. It grabs you and wont let go from the first note of Statesboro Blues to the last notes of Drunkin Hearted Boy with Elvin Bishop off of The Fillmore Concerts, it doesn't let go.

Jon Lord is an absolutely ingenious musician!

Walked in the guitar store, ask the clerk for a glass slide. He looked at me like I was asking for a space ship. Says " no one plays the slide anymore. And I told him, thats why music sucks now ".

I read Dickey took a short cut one day through a cemetery and seen her tombstone.she died 100 years back and he wondered about her.
